2nd Day Traditional graves, unique architecture and local markets

In the morning, we explore the highlights of the region. We visit Ke’te Kesu, a small village well known for its original Tongkonan houses, beautiful wood carvings and typical Toraja paintings; this village is a Unesco World Heritage site. Another beautiful dri ve through Randan Batu will take us to the somewhat melancholic baby grave on a living tree in Kambira. After lunch, we continue to the curious cave of Londa. Use as grave, we can see bones and deceased in these natural caves. We move to Lemo where graves are carved into the stone cliff and the wooden effigies of the dead gaze upon from its balcony. We end the day at the colorful and lively Rantepao afternoon market full of spices, coffee and handicrafts. Return to hotel.

3rd Day Megaliths stone, soft trekking, stunning views and daily Toraja life
Breakfast - Lunch
Today excursion will give us a further insight into the local traditions and captivated us with its beautiful scenery. The megalith collections of Bori and beautiful Tongkonan adorned with ornaments, carvings and majestic buffalo horns in Pallawa are our cultural starter. We continue to the mountain towards Batutumonga, located on a dramatic ridge, high on the slope of Mount Sesean. The area offers relaxing ambiance, cool temperature and beautiful scenery – a mixture of terraced paddy fields, forest and open grassland. It is really a perfect place to sit, relax and enjoy a warm cup of Toraja coffee. After lunch, we walk to Lo’komata. The sheer size and colorful motives on the doors of this big stone grave creates a sense of amazements to everyone standing upon it. Walking our way down to Tikala, we will get the firsthand experience of the local people daily life - women pounding rice, men scrubbing their buffalo, children laughing and playing… a seemingly happy and unworried existence contrasting the seriousness of funerals and graves. Pick up by car then return to hotel.

The Toraja people still continue their mystical funeral traditions with impressive ceremonies that reflect respect and honor to the deceased
In case such a ceremony takes place during our stay, we could adjust the program according to your preferences to allow us an opportunity to attend those events
